If ever there was an article that made parents of P Platers shudder it was today. According to the Tasmanian coroner a young life was lost and his friends were horribly injured because he was trying to save petrol. It's frightening just how unprepared our young drivers can be for their adventures on our roads. This young man was obviously unaware of some of the features of the vehicle and when he turned the engine off while he was moving he inadvertently robbed himself of the ability to manoeuvre his car. Coroner Rod Chandler said "I am satisfied that it occurred in this instance not because the deceased was being foolhardy or irresponsible but rather because of his ignorance of its effect upon his capacity to manage the
vehicle."
I encourage all parents to educate their children on more than just the road rules, correct driving procedures, and how to pass the licensing test.
The Women On Wheels workshops are an ideal way to address vehicle knowledge with our younger drivers. Many parents feel that they are they last ones their kids listen to because, well you're their parents, so you don't need to tell them, we will. Send them along to one of our workshops, it's free, educational, and you might just be saving their life.
We take all drivers - Learner Drivers, P Platers, experienced drivers, young men and women, and more mature drivers. We happily accept registrations from both men and women, and for the men out there that are wondering if they should come of course you should, as long as you don't mind being surrounded by a whole workshop full of wonderful ladies!
Take care out there everyone, and we look forward to seeing you at one of our workshops soon.
